Adult Independence

Adults with multiple disabilities and medical fragility achieve skills that allow for meaningful participation in normal activities of daily living and achieve independence. Adult Independence specializes in providing personal care, nursing support and dietary services to meet health and wellness needs, while promoting quality of life through access to social interaction, purposeful activity, life-long learning and leisure experiences. Adult Mentors provide highly individualized training. Self-directed development in community living, physical fitness, basic computer usage and daily living skills provides a unique opportunity for growth.

Life Skills I, II, III

Adults with multiple disabilities and medical fragility achieve skills that allow meaningful participation in normal activities of daily living. The program rooms are separated by age groups: young adults, middle age and older adults. This separation allows the daily plans to be tailored to age-appropriate activities and interests.

Life Skills has one adult mentor to every four adults in the room. The staff specializes in providing personal care and promotes quality of life through access to social interaction, purposeful activity and life-long learning and leisure experiences.

Activities such as sensory, current events, exercise, men’s and women’s groups, art and music activities are scheduled every hour in the program rooms.

Community Comes to Redwood Events are offered throughout the year to expose adults to new opportunities and learning.  These could include visits  from local musicians, sports players and librarians, etc.  In addition, community outings are also scheduled to enable adults to learn from the community.

Life Skills Computer

The Life Skills Computer(LSC) program offers computer access to adults with multiple disabilities while also offering them the advantage of the other life skills programs.

The LSC program teaches basic computer knowledge and encourages use for leisure activities such as email, Internet searches, greeting card design, and computer learning games among others. In addition, it also offers some vocational opportunities, all designed to help increase each adults personal sense of independence. The program works closely with Assistive Technology to adapt the newest equipment in order for our adults to expand their ability levels. The Computer Life Skills staff are experts in assistive technology and assist in the design of a personalized curriculum based on an individual assessment.

After Work/After Care Program

The After Work program offers adults a stimulating alternative at the end of the work or training day. Self directed development in community living, socialization, physical fitness, and daily living skills provide a unique opportunity for growth in the late afternoon hours, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Exposure to special-interest topics helps develop independence and broaden knowledge.
